Rebecca Cakes & BakesI have always loved being in the kitchen. As a teenager, I would often cook dinner with my parents. As a university student, I prepared meals with my roommates in our tiny townhouse kitchen. And, in the 8 houses and apartments across 3 countries and 5 cities my husband and I have lived in during the last 16 years, I have enjoyed experimenting and creating dishes for our family and friends.

My love of, and mild obsession with, baking was a more recent acquisition. It all started with a feeling that I NEEDED to bake a birthday cake from scratch for our son’s first birthday. In the 5 years that have followed, I’ve been reading blogs and recipe websites to help achieve my desire to learn to be able to produce anything from granola bars to cookies to muffins to pies and everything in between.

My most recent adventure into cake and cookie decorating was sparked by the realization that although I could make a cake that tasted great for my children’s birthdays, I had no skills to make them look great. After some internet-inspired successes and failures, this past summer I spent my Saturdays in the Wilton cake decorating classes and fell in love with all things fondant and buttercream. Since then, I’ve embraced online tutorials and blogs to begin to learn the ins and outs of sugar cookie decorating as well.

When I am not in the kitchen cooking, baking, and decorating, I can be found browsing Pinterest for all things food related and home décor ideas, dreaming of all the vacations I want to take with my husband and children, trying to learn how to use my DSLR camera off of ‘auto’, and keeping up with the kids’ social life and activities.
