Frozen

The movie of the year among the children on the planet was definitely Disney’s Frozen. Our two LOVED it and were quickly obsessed, and although Leighton has become a little tired of it now, Riley still loves all things Elsa and Anna and Frozen when she sees them. Like Riley, there are lots of others still excited by Frozen and choosing it as the theme for their birthday parties. Here is a little wrap up of the different Frozen themed cakes and cupcakes I’ve done!

Ava’s 6th Birthday Cupcakes

Originally I had piped royal icing transfers, but I think due to the high humidity at the time, they just didn’t set properly and broke when I tried to get them. Luckily I had enough time to make some teal circles out of fondant and gum paste, and I piped the snowflakes free-hand onto those instead.

Quinn’s 5th Birthday Cake

This was the first time I worked with an edible image, and I was relieved it worked out so well after reading lots of stories online of how tricky they can be! A lot of inspiration came from photos I found online here and here. I was pleased with the set of snowflake plungers I bought to use to make all the snowflakes, and I was thankful to the girl at the cake store who suggested I use an edible image to create the #5 topper for the cake.

Sylvie’s 4th Birthday Cake

This cake was another opportunity to use edible images and the snowflake plungers. At the last minute I decided to add on some silver sanding sugar to make the top of the cake look snowy and sparkly, and I was really pleased with the result.

Riley’s 4th Birthday Cake

I needed a small cake to have for Riley at home with just the 4 of us after her big party with cupcakes at the playground (I made pink tutu cupcakes and cookies for that!), and I have always wanted to try to make a cake with a doll in it, so this was the perfect no-pressure opportunity to try it out. I was inspired by this Elsa doll cake and this “Let it Go” cake. My fondant was too soft to do as many details as those two cakes, but I improvised for something simpler. I used royal icing to glue some snowflakes onto Elsa’s hands to try to mimic the part in the movie that Riley loves. Riley was so pleased with her cake and thought it was pretty fantastic she got to keep the doll out of the middle!

Hannah’s 6th Birthday Cake

I sent Hannah and Naomi several ideas for cakes, and Hannah liked the one I did for Sylvie the best, so I did a very similar design on a bigger cake. Naomi sent me a different edible image to use, and we were both highly impressed with the quality of how it printed.

I keep wondering if this will be the end of the Frozen themed parties. The movie has been out for over a year, so any child who had a birthday party to plan would have had the opportunity to have the Frozen theme by now. Even if this isn’t the end, I assume there will be far fewer coming up on Pinterest and less merchandise in the stores. Until they make a sequel (I’ve read rumors but have no idea if that will happen …)!!

Where did you get the number 5 from? I need to make a cake and I have the design but I can seem to find the number 5.

    Thanks !!

I got it at a local cake supply store, and I know that both stores I frequent carry them. Perhaps you will be able to find one at a store near you! What city are you in?
