First & Last Day of School Tradition

Over the past two years, we have started a tradition of a fun dessert to celebrate the first and last day of school for Leighton. It was his last day of Kindergarten just over 2 weeks ago, so it meant another dessert celebration for us!

I have done cakes and cupcakes in the past, so I decided to make him some sugar cookies this time. And it worked out well logistically since I was already making this beach themed sugar cookie collection for the same time! I couldn’t hide the cookies from Leighton to surprise him because they take a couple days to complete and are spread out in the kitchen during the baking and cooling and decorating and drying stages. However, he didn’t know the ice cream cones were for him and assumed they went with the others, so it still ended up being a fun surprise! Unfortunately, he was home sick with a fever for his last day of school, but I hope that having his special cookies after dinner helped soften the blow a bit.

And looking back, this is what I made him for the first and last day of Pre-K and the first day of Kindergarten.
