Baking With Nutella

Baking With Nutella

I was rushing to do some last minute food gathering for some Valentine-themed meals and snacks for my kids, and decided that if I could do everything in one spot, I’d ignore the super large quantities or higher prices by getting everything and get what I needed at Costco while I was already there.

Three cucumbers? Easy to use up.

A giant package of grape tomatoes? Also not a problem to use up.

Two HUGE jars of Nutella when all I needed was about 2 Tbsp? A creativity challenge I was willing to take on!

I know many people love Nutella, and I do enjoy the taste, but I didn’t want the open jar sitting around forever waiting to be doled out in small portions to the kids for dipping their apples into or for spreading on their crepes. Instead, I scoured Pinterest for some different recipes to try and worked my way through a few of them over the past 6 weeks.

Nutella Swirled Blondies

I made these to take to an afterschool play date. I left out the peanut butter chips, but I can imagine they would have tasted delicious!

3 Ingredient Nutella Brownies

I made these for a play date I was hosting. They were so fast and simple to mix together, but there is some time lost in scooping the batter out into individual mini muffins. Making these in a square baking pan would really make these a super fast and simple recipe. I liked the individual two bite size of these though for baking time AND serving. I opted to leave off the hazelnuts on top because I prefer my brownies without nuts.

Nutella Oatmeal Cookies

I made these for a school bake sale. They were really easy to put together, but even with chilling they spread and ended up thin. This could be attributed to the fact that I yielded more cookies than the recipe suggested, however. And it didn’t matter for the taste or texture because they were still very soft and chewy.

And a few years ago, I remember making some self-frosting Nutella cupcakes a couple different times. I don’t know for sure if this was the recipe, but I am assuming so. I remember them being tasty and enjoyed by all, but they weren’t particularly moist or fluffy. I think they were more on the dry and dense end of the cupcake spectrum.

We are almost done this first jar of Nutella, but remember it was a twin pack I got from Costco, so stay tuned for more Nutella-themed recipes when that next jar gets opened.

You should definitely try it! The blondies recipe isn’t overpowering in Nutella flavor, so try it with your yummy Lino Lada Milk!

I think I might have to try the Nutella Oatmeal Cookies, although I fear that having an open jar of Nutella in the house might be very dangerous!

Let me know if you try them!

I made these a couple of weeks ago. I put half the batch into the freezer right away so we wouldn’t just sit and eat cookies, but we manage to get a couple out of the freezer on the nights when there isn’t other dessert available (like sourdough chocolate cake that has to be made when the sourdough starter is getting out of hand). The cookies are great, but my fear of having an open jar of Nutella on the shelf has been realized. A spoonful of Nutella is better (and I can’t believe I am saying this) than a spoonful of peanut butter. Melinda tells me a spoonful of Nutella AND peanut butter is like a Reese’s peanut butter cup (I haven’t introduced Dad to that yet).

Maybe a peanut butter and Nutella cookie needs to be made!

OMG I NEED those cookies! We’ve been putting Nutella on matzo over here in order to get through Passover!

      Very creative use of Nutella!

Those cookies look amazing, I actually like the thinness of them!

I tried those self-frosting cupcakes and yes, they were incredibly dense.

Glad I am remembering correctly that they were so dense. I think I might try a modified version sometime with a lighter cupcake base.
