Creative Uses for Cookie Cutters

Creative Uses of Cookie Cutters

I love looking at how the various cookie experts (including Sweet Sugar Belle) use cutters in such creative ways. I even got the awesome Patti Page book from Roy for Christmas this year!

I thought I would give it a try when I was working on some Christmas cookies last month and remembered I had some pumpkin cookies in the freezer to use up. I figured that a Santa hat and a snowman hat could easily fit into the stem of the pumpkin, so decided to try to make some Santas and snowmen. And then I figured it could work for a wreath, as well. (*note that I didn’t look online for any inspiration or tutorials on how to use pumpkin cutters in these ways, but very well could have seen it on a blog or Pinterest at some point in time, but I don’t remember any specifics to give credit if that’s the case.)

Sweet Sugar Belle has a great post on more ideas of how to use a pumpkin cookie cutter that I will have to try out sometime.

I had seen this tutorial for a beautiful wreath cookie, and decided to try it out on a shell cookie I had in the freezer. Unfortunately, I only had one cookie to use, so I didn’t have any cookies to try as practice first. I loved being able to use the shell cutter for this because the wreath cookie cutters I have are much larger.

Another way to use cookie cutters in a creative way is to create designs on basic squares and circles. I took inspiration for the snowmen faces from these two photos (1, 2), for the Santa suits from these two photos (1, 2), and for the Santa faces from this photo. I am excited to try out more designs on circles and squares. I love the way they work as a collection to all be the same shape but with different designs on them.

You are so creative! I’d never know they weren’t what you made them to be.

It’s amazing what you can do with some of the different shapes!

Great creativity. Doesn’t matter where you get the ideas, the cookies become your own.

Before I knew you (since now I outsource all bday party cakes to you!) I actually made fondant toppers for Sylvie’s birthday cupcakes – I made owl shapes using a tulip cookie cutter.
